About SEAM

What is Stanford SEAM?
SEAM stands for Students for Engagement and Activism in Microfinance. We are a small but growing student group at Stanford, eager to spread the word about microfinance.

Why do we exist?
We are an educational and advocacy group at Stanford University. We seek to educate students about the power of microfinance as a tool for eradicating poverty around the world. Beyond education, it is our goal to inspire students to get involved in microfinance to further the mission of providing financial services to the world's poor in need.

What do we do?
Among other activities, these are some of the activities that we engage in, both on and off campus:
  1. Hosting speaker events on campus
  2. Attending and representing Stanford at SVMN (Silicon Valley Microfinance Network) events
  3. Connecting interested students to internship/fellowship opportunities in the field
  4. Reaching out with the One Hen educational program to local 4th-6th graders in the Stanford area to teach children about microfinance specifically, but global awareness, entrepreneurship, and poverty alleviation more broadly
  5. Compiling a reading list of microfinance materials and hosting discussions to further the student body's understanding of and engagement with the opportunities and challenges that microfinance presents
